Travelling Red Dress: इस ड्रेस ने पिछले 10 सालों में कर ली है दुनिया की सैर, जानिए क्यों?

नई दिल्ली, लाइफस्टाइल डेस्क। इस खूबसूरत सिल्क की फ्रॉक पर रंगीन दिलकश कढ़ाई को देखकर आप हैरान जरूर होंगे। ये फ्रॉक बेहद करीने से तैयार की गई है। जी हां, ब्रिटिश कलाकार क्रिस्टी मैकलेड ने 2009 में ‘द रेड ड्रेस प्रोजेक्ट' नामक एक वैश्विक कढ़ाई परियोजना शुरू की थी। ब्रिटिश काउंसिल द्वारा वित्तीय सहायता मिली इस पोशाक को बनाने में एक दो साल नहीं बल्कि पूरे 10 साल लगे है। इस लाल सिल्क की ड्रेस ने 28 देशों की यात्रा की है। इस पोशाक पर खूबसूरत एम्ब्रोडरी 202 कारीगरों ने मिल कर की है। इस दिलकश पोशाक को दुनियाभर में पसंद किया गया है।

ये एक अलग तरह की पोशाक है,

कर्स्टी के इस प्रोजेक्ट के तहत कलाकार सभी पृष्ठभूमि की महिलाओं के साथ जुड़ना चाहते थे। इस ड्रेस को दुबाई, इटली, लंदन, मैक्सिकों और पेरिस जैसे कई देशों की आर्ट गैलेरी और म्यूजियम में सजाया गया है। ये ड्रेस किस तरह तैयार की गई, कैसे और कितने कारीगरों ने इस ड्रेस को बनाने में सहयोग किया, कैसे कारीगरों को भुगतान किया गया, सबकी डॉक्यूमेंट्री भी शेयर की गई है।

Thinking back to our visit to meet Hilaria Lopez, one of the 2 artisans supported by @kitzin_ in Chiapas. She lives with her family in San Juan Chamula; a beautiful (and very insular Tzotzil town). ⁣ ⁣ Hilaria was taught embroidery by her mother at 7 years old, and she loves it! In fact her whole family embroider and make clothing, and she sees herself always embroidering. ⁣ ⁣ The Lopez family live in a beautiful house that tumbles down the hillside....with black sheep, chickens, rabbits, pretty flowers and the most speculator of views. ⁣ ⁣ It was a very peaceful few hours, with minimal words - and those that were shared had to go between two translators - one from English to Spanish and another from Spanish to Tzotzil (one of the many Mayan dialects spoken in Mexico).⁣ ⁣ This was the moment she first put on the Red Dress inside the families sewing room. इस फ्रॉक पर एम्ब्रॉड्री करने वाले कारीगरों में फिलिस्तीन के शरणार्थी, कोसोवो, रवांडा, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, केन्या, जापान, पेरिस, स्वीडन और पेरू, मुंबई, सऊदी अरब और वेल्स के कारीगर शामिल है। इस फ्रॉक का निर्माण दक्षिण अफ्रीका के केप टाउन में मिसिंबा जैसी जगहों पर गरीबी महिलाओं का समर्थन करने की पहल के रूप में हुआ है।

At the heart of the Red Dress is a desire to connect with women from all over the world - no matter what their background, age or circumstance...and to create a platform in which they can express and feel empowered to do so. I have had many messages these past few days asking whether the artisans are paid. YES, absolutely! All commissioned artisans are paid for their work. It’s very important to me that there be a fair exchange, and I know only too well how artisans/makers can be exploited. The artisans let me know the price for their embroidery and (as much of the commissions were self funded) if I couldn’t afford it, they kindly created a smaller piece or worked out what they would like to create within the budget. During the dresses first years of creation 2009/10, a selection of embroidery students from the Royal School of Needlework (where I used to tutor) and another from Manchester uni did create some work in kind, as have the women who have taken part in drop-in events where the dress has been exhibited....where if they felt to they could add a little something to the dress. I strive for there to be no hierarchy within this project, and for the makers of the garment (so often overlooked in our society of fast fashion) be brought centre stage. I am a textile artist, but I don’t see this dress as my own work at all. The Red Dress is the culmination of over 250 people’s dedication, time and energy over a decade. My role has and continues to be to guide and support the dress forward. इस फ्रॉक पर भारत में की गई कढ़ाई के कुछ नमूनों को भी सांझा किया गया है। इस फ्रॉक पर कमल के फूलों को बनाया गया है। फ्रॉक पर कढ़ाई करने वाले कारीगर आलम ने बताया कि इस फ्रॉक पर सोने के अलग-अलग धागों और मेटल वर्क का इस्तेमाल करके कमल के फूल बनाए गए है।
