Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy 2014

Hockey, the former pride of India is back here in the form of Hockey Champions Trophy 2014 hosted no-where but in the city of Bhubaneshwar from 6 December 2014 to 14 December 2014. The major features related to Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy are as following:

-Germany added a 10th Champions Trophy to their list of honors after a 2-0 victory over Pakistan in final on 14 Dec .

-India ended up fourth in the Champions Trophy, going down 1-2 to Australia in the bronze medal match on 14 Dec.

-The inaugural event of the Champions trophy was held in 1978.

-The first edition had only five teams.

-Hockey Federation. The

tournament was founded by Pakistan's Air Marshal Nur Khan.

-In the men's tournament, the Australians have won the trophy thirteen, the Germans Ten and the Dutch eight times.

-Hero Hockey Champions Trophy 2014 had eight of the world’s best international men’s teams in India.

-Pool A was featuring current World champions Australia along with England, Belgium and Pakistan, whereas host India was in Pool B along with Germany, the Netherlands and Argentina.

-Pakistan is the only Asian team to win the Champions trophy. It has won the event thrice.

-The men’s Hero Hockey Champions Trophy is the first major international hockey tournament held in the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

-The 8 competing teams included the host nation, the top five finishers from the previous edition, the winner of the Champions Challenge I held in 2012 and one team was nominated by the FIH Board.

-In any case, If one of the teams does not want to participate, that place will be given to next best finisher in the previous tournament.
