The Combined Graduate Level Examination 2014 which is conducted by the Staff Service Commission has alerted the candidates about the written examination dates. The candidates who would get through the examinations would then have to go for another round of selection. The final selection is made after three rounds, known as Tier I, Tier II and Tier III exams. In Tier I, the candidates need to go through written exams which consists of objective type multiple choice questions. The paper contains 200 questions in total, which carries 200 marks along with them. The Tier II consists of descriptive questions and Tier III deals with computer proficiency test/ Interview/ skill test, depending on the post for which the candidates have applied.

In Tier I there is a paper of General Intelligence and Reasoning which carries a total of 50 marks. The paper is further divided into two parts, i) Non-Verbal Reasoning and ii) Verbal Reasoning. The paper needs specific control and there are some tips that can help in building confidence in the paper.

Enhance your thinking capacity: There would be questions dealing with visual codes, figural series, space visualizations and Venn diagrams with no adequate verbal or syntactical material to support your thought. Hence there has to be clear understanding while answering. The options that would be present along with the question would further confuse you as all of them might claim to be right. Hence you need to enhance your thinking capacity by practicing them and crack the code which could lead you to the actual answer than to the close

proximities.

Follow the patterns well: If you have to crack Non-verbal reasoning questions you need to work out accordingly. You need to constantly practice to understand certain patterns that could develop your thinking while answering. The patterns for right answers need to be followed.

Go for mock tests and time drills: For guaranteed success the candidates have to hone their skills by practicing mock test papers regularly. They need to take the time factor in mind as well while solving these reasoning questions. Sticking to a particular question and becoming rigid to answer that particular question leaving the time it takes aside, is a bad idea indeed.

Bring forward new ideas: For solving the non-verbal problems in reasoning one need to be alert of the question as it doesn’t get supported through much verbal elements. Hence the candidate has to understand everything by the visual material and thus should come up with new ideas to solve them in lesser time.
